My Father Norman, worked at Emmerson Walkers right though the war, he made Capstans for the ships. The forge was a busy hub and we used to cycle to meet him as he came home. He worked until it was closed in the mid sixties, it lay unused for along time, until Jewsons the builders took it over. I remember one year, all the workers' kids going on a Coach trip to the coast! (of course it rained!). I also remember that my father got burned on his back there, and was unable to work for a while. My father died in 1990, but I still have all of his tools from his work there.
