Granny Dawson
The legendary Granny Dawson was a regular sight in Dunston early in the century. She spent a lifetime working at her family's Market Lane Dairy, herding and milking cows and delivering their milk from her float seven days a week.

I've just been reading about Granny Dawson delivering milk at the beginning of the century. Did you know that Miss Jane (Jenny) Dawson is still living in Dunston at the fine old age of 91 years?

Re Dawson Farm, During WW2 and later the Farm was run by Johnny Dawson, I may be wrong, but I seem to recall that he employed two German POWs, Johnny also employed local school kids during the potato picking season, Bloody hard work for little pay.He was often seen at the end of the day taking a stroll to the Crowley Hotel, which was in the early 1950s run by Mrs Watson. Whickhan Thorns Farm was better known as Geordie Cairns Farm.
